Semiotics as a Theoretical Foundation of
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper sets forth semiotics as a viable theoretical foundation of information design. In addition to presenting a brief history of the development of semiotics it also gives three examples of how semiotic principles are applied to specific fields of study. These areas include information systems engineering, organizational decision support systems, information intensive web interfaces, and agent-based ecommerce systems. Although some have criticized semiotics for being arbitrarily applied, the literature presented in this paper supports it as an effective theory of information design which provides many practical applications.

Use Case Analysis with Narrative Semiotics
Use cases are the accepted contemporary vehicle for the capture, collection and management of functional requirements for information systems and networked eand mcommerce environments .While employed widely, use cases lack a critical theoretical foundation. As a result, the applications of use cases vary greatly in practice. We present an analysis of use cases based on the narrative semiotics o...

One of aspects of the carpets which can be studied is their pattern and design, and such a study can be performed based on theoretical and scientific-artistic approaches, including symbol and sign. In fact, by studying and analyzing designs and patterns of carpets on the basis of a semiotic system, semantic signification of them can be analyzed. Accordingly, a carpet with corner-medallion patte...
متن کاملA semiotics framework for information systems classification and development
Terms such as ‘data processing system’, ‘management information system’, ‘decision support system’, ‘expert system’ and ‘executive support system’ are widely used. However, there appears to be no generally accepted way to distinguish among these classes of information systems due to the vagueness that has existed in traditional classification schemes of information systems. The purpose of this ...
متن کاملTheoretical Perspectives of Enterprise Architecture
The number of published Enterprise Architecture (EA) research has increased during the last few years. As a discipline, EA is still young and lacking theoretical foundation. Lately some research trying to ground EA to theory has been published, including linkage to systems theory. Enterprise Architecture can be defined as; (i) a formal description of the current and future state(s) of an organi...
متن کامل"semiotic Notation Principles for Business
Business Process Models use symbolic notations to represent business processes. Influenced by system engineering and mathematics, the application of these notations involves technical processes designed by engineers, undertaken by technically trained analysts for the use of largely technical people. However, the majority of business process stakeholders are non-technically inclined with a busin...
